Extended Information:
SURFACE PREPARATION Surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and in good condition, free of wax, loose paint, grease, old wallcovering adhesive, mold and mildew, and other residue. Inspect the surface for paint bonding, loose wallcoverings, damaged wallboard or plaster. Remove old or loose wallcovering and residual wallcovering adhesive with DIF Wallpaper Stripper. Repair unsound surfaces. Seal loose paint or damaged drywall and fully cured skim coats with Gardz High Performance Sealer as needed. WARNING!
If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-Approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead. New Drywall New drywall must be wiped down with a damp cloth to remove dust prior to priming. If it is necessary to remove newly installed fabric-backed vinyl wallcovering, wait 21 days or until wallcovering adhesive is fully cured. Glossy Surfaces Glossy paint, paneling, existing wallcovering, glass, plastic,
etc. should be primed with ShieldZ Universal prior to wallcovering installation. Metal Surfaces
Prime with rust-inhibitive Bulls-Eye 1-2-3 Primer. Existing Wallcovering
Remove whenever possible. Use ShieldZ Universal to prime over non-removable wallcovering. Old porous or metallic wallpaper should be removed or sealed with B-I-N Primer before applying ShieldZ Universal. Plaster
New plaster must age at least 90 days before application of ShieldZ Universal. MIXING
Mix thoroughly to ensure any settled pigment is re-dispersed. DO NOT THIN. APPLICATION
Apply only when air, material, and surface temperatures are between 50-100ºF (10-38ºC) and the relative humidity is or less than 85%. Apply with a brush, roller, or airless sprayer with a 0.017 tip at 2,000-2,500 psi for optimum spread rate. Cut in entire surface using a brush at the corners, edges, and openings. Close container tightly after each use. COLOR/TINTING
ShieldZ Universal Wallcovering Primer may be tinted to medium tone colors to match the background color of wallcovering to hide seams and gaps. Use a maximum of 4 oz. of universal tinting color per gallon. If a dark color is needed, use ShieldZ Clear Wall Size. CLEAN-UP
Clean up all tools and spots immediately with warm water.
