SURFACE PREPARATION Surfaces should be clean, dry, sound and in good condition, free of wax, loose paint, grease, old wallcovering adhesive, mold and mildew,and other residue. Inspect the surface for paint bonding, loose wallcoverings, damaged wallboard or plaster. Remove old or loose wallcovering and residual wall covering adhesive with DIF Wallpaper Stripper. Repair unsound surfaces.
WARNING!
If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-Approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. New Drywall Remove joint compound dust with a damp cloth before applying two coats of ShieldZ Clear Wall Size. Wait two hours between coats. Product may not protect drywall surface from damage when removing wallcovering for redecorating. ShieldZ Universal Wallcovering primer is recommended if drywall protection is desired.
Painted or Glossy Surfaces
Adheres to all surfaces including glossy paint and other hard-to-stick surfaces without the need for sanding. Prime bare metal surfaces with Bulls-Eye 1-2-3 Primer.
Existing Wallcovering
Remove whenever possible. Apply ShieldZ Clear Wall Size to prime over non-removable wallcovering. Old porous or metallic wallpaper should be removed or sealed with B-I-N Primer before applying ShieldZ Clear Wall Size.
Plaster
New plaster must age at least 90 days before application of ShieldZ Clear Wall Size.
APPLICATION
Thoroughly mix before using. Do not thin. Apply only when air, material, and surface temperatures are between 50-90ºF
(10-32ºC) and the relative humidity is or less than 85%. Apply with a brush, roller, or sprayer. Cut in entire surface using a brush at the corners, edges, and openings. Close container tightly after each use.
TINTING
ShieldZ Clear Wall Size may be tinted to dark colors to match the background color of the wall covering or to hide seams or gaps. Use a maximum of 1oz. of universal tinting color per quart.
CLEAN-UP
Clean up all tools and immediately with warm soapy water.
STORAGE
Keep from freezing.
