Extended Information:
PAINTING CONDITIONS
Use outdoors or in a well ventilated area such as an open garage. Apply when temperature is between 50-90°F (10-32°C) and humidity is below 65% to ensure proper drying. Do not apply to surfaces, when heated, exceed 200°F (93°C). Do not apply to galvanized steel. Avoid spraying in very windy and dusty conditions. Cover surrounding area to protect from spray mist. SURFACE PREPARATION
Do not use on non-rusted surfaces. Remove all dirt, grease, oil, salt and chemical contaminants by washing the surface with a commercial detergent, or other suitable cleaning method. Rinse with fresh water and allow to thoroughly dry. Scrape and wire brush or power tool clean to remove loose rust, scale, and deteriorated coatings. WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint from any surface, you may release lead paint dust. LEAD IS
TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE; ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. For additional information, contact the U.S. EPA/Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead. APPLICATION Aerosol: Shake can vigorously for one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Shake often during use. If mixing ball fails to rattle DO NOT STRIKE CAN. Contact Rust-Oleum. Hold can upright 10-16" from surface and spray in a steady back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. Keep the can the same distance from the surface. Keep the can in motion while spraying. The coated surface will turn black. Do not use near open flame. Brush:
Stir contents before using. Pour a small amount of Rust Reformer into a separate non-metallic container. Brush the material evenly across the surface to be coated. The Rust Reformer will dry to a black film in about 15 minutes. Do not return any unused Rust Reformer to the original container. Doing so will contaminate the remaining material and reduce or eliminate its effectiveness. DRY & RECOAT
Dry and recoat times are based on 70°F and 50% relative humidity. Allow more time at cooler temperatures. Aerosol:
Allow to dry for 24 hours. One coat is sufficient. If desired, apply a topcoat after 24 hours. CLEAN-UP Aerosol: When finished spraying, clean valve immediately by turning can upside down and depressing spray button for 3-5 seconds. Clean up overspray with xylene or mineral spirits. Properly discard empty container. Do not burn or place in home trash compactor. Brush: Spills should be cleaned up immediately with water. Clean brushes and tools with soap and water. CLOGGING
If the valve clogs, twist and pull off spray tip and rinse in a solvent such as mineral spirits. Do not insert any object into can valve opening.
